ATLANTIC BEECH WOOD AND OAK GROVE
They occupy the most northerly area of the Community, being the most characteristic landscape in the Cantabrian Range. These deciduous forests are conditioned by the influence of the Atlantic climate, and this is why they tend to be called Atlantic forests.
Generally, these forests have a predominant type of tree which names the forest as a whole, such as beech forests or oak forests, etc.
The typical species which form part of this environment as the European Honey Buzzard, Eurasian Woodcock, Black Woodpecker, Middle Spotted Woodpecker, Willow Warbler, Marsh Tit, Eurasian Treecreeper, Red-backed Shrike and Eurasian Bullfinch.
The best representation of Atlantic forests is kept in the Acares, Sierra de la Demanda, Babia-Laciana, Picos de Europa and Montaña Palentina.
