Justification for our participation in the TRINO project
The Cerrato Palentino Local Development Plan creates two key priorities. The first, which is more directly related to the TRINO initiative, is the development of the region’s tourism industry through the appreciation of its natural and cultural resources.
More specifically, within the measures specified by the Cerrato Local Development Plan and the Promotion of tourism activities, there are two specific sub-measures:
Promotion and dissemination of tourism activities
Promotion of tourism by public institutions, specifically through the creation of themed tourism trails that are related to the region’s natural heritage.
From a point of view that considered bird and natural wealth, the portion of the Natura 2000 ecology network (areas of high natural and ecological value) located in Cerrato is composed of 625.99 ha that belong to the ZEPA (Special Protection Area for Birds, from the Spanish acronym) of Riberas del Pisuerga (Pisuerga River Banks); there are also 22,982.1 ha inside the Montes Torozos y Páramos de Torquemada-Astudillo LIC (Site of Community Interest, also from the Spanish acronym) and 12,234.9 ha inside the Montes del Cerrato LIC.
