ROUTE DESCRIPTIONThe path goes through the valley of the River Hornija, a geographical accident that breaks the horizontality and uniformity of the páramo (moor) of Montes Torozos, where flat cereal fields are the predominant feature of the landscape. The route starts at a spot near the village of Peñaflor de Hornija and runs parallel to the River Hornija, a tributary of the River Duero. Along the route we pass through the fluvial river bank ecosystem and one can hear the songs of many birds. Golden Orioles, Nightingales, Great Tits, Reed Warblers and other small birds fill this fluvial course in Valladolid with life in spring. The slopes of the right bank are covered with small woods of Aleppo Pines, where birds such as Stock Doves, Red-legged Partridges or Great Spotted Woodpeckers predominate. Amongst the birds of prey we can find the Common Buzzard, Black Kite, Common Kestrel, Booted Eagle, Goshawk, Sparrowhawk and Peregrine Falcon.
