ROUTE DESCRIPTIONMelgar de Arriba is a village mainly dedicated to farming, situated in the rural district of Tierra de Campos, in the province of Valladolid. This route runs through the most north-westerly part of the La Nava-Campos Norte Special Protection Area for Birds. The route is signposted with direction signs and interpretation panels. Most of the route takes advantage of the comfortable surface of the tracks between the cultivated fields. For a short section in the north of the route it is necessary to pay close attention to the signposting, because the route leaves the concentration tracks for 2 km. Walking across the wide cereal plains crossed by irrigation channels, one can easily see raptors such as Lesser and Common Kestrels, and different species of Harriers, as well as Larks and Wheatears. It is worth stopping to give a detailed observation to the surroundings, in the distance across the fields you might see species such as the Eurasian Stone Curlew, the Little Bustard, and the impressive Great Bustard. It is worth paying a visit to the tower of the Church of Santiago, which has been equipped as an observatory for birds.
