ROUTE DESCRIPTIONThis route is located in the surroundings of the Sierra de Bordecorex, in the most northerly part of the Altos de Barahona, a Site of Community Importance (SCI) and a Special Protection Area for Birds (SPAB). The high plains have been worn away by the River Torete, creating a landscape of wide meanders and an open river plain, bordered by hillsides covered in Holm Oak woods. There are a number of rocky outcrops which emerge from the wooded slopes. From Bordecorex we follow a track which goes parallel to the wide track which runs through the river plain, along which we later continue. At the point where it crosses the River Torete, we turn onto a path which passes through woods as it continues alongside the cultivated area. It is easy to observe birds such as Warblers and Finches. Especially frequent is the European Nightjar. In autumn and winter Jays, Tits, Wood Pigeons, and Thrushes are particularly attracted by the berries and acorns. After passing over an old bridge of historical interest, a track finally leads us into Fuentegelmes.
