DescriptionThe first part of the tour goes through the Fuentelacasa Valley, passing by rain-fed crops and some Mediterranean wooded areas, as well as replanted pine forests. The marly limestone hills deserve special mention since their unique flora and fauna make for an interesting and valuable habitat. In spring and summer, amidst the thyme and furze, you can find the spectacled warbler. It would not be unusual to see the black-eared wheatear or woodchat shrike sitting in the canopy of the trees and bushes while the tawny pipit hops along on the ground. Make sure to pay attention to the sky so you can identify the peregrine falcon, perhaps in pursuit of a stock dove. Later, the trail passes through an area of notable botanical diversity, declared a Site of Community Importance of the Natura 2000 Network and made up of thyme bushes, Mediterranean woodland (holm and gall oaks, oaks and Spanish junipers) and cereal crops. You can catch sight of Spanish sparrows, nightjars and ortolan buntings, as well as birds of prey such as the Montagu’s harrier and the golden, booted and short-toed eagles, among many others.
