ROUTE DESCRIPTION

The route passes through the surroundings of Milles de Polvorosa, a village that is located at the confluence of the River Tera and the River Esla. Here both rivers and their bank vegetation are catalogued as Sites of Community Interest (SCI) with the name of “Banks of the sub-basin of River Esla” and “Banks of the sub-basin of River Tera”.

The walk starts in Milles de Polvorosa approaching the bank of the River Esla on comfortable concentration tracks, amongst irrigated fields and irrigation channels. In the direction of “Casa del Plantío” the route continues parallel to the bank where Black Poplar plantations predominate along with the typical riparian forest formed by Ashes, White Poplars, Willows and Alders.

This circular route finishes by passing through “Lugar Viejo”, a beautiful flooded area where it is advisable to stop and quietly enjoy the landscape and its birds. Common House Martins, Swallows, Swifts, Typical Warblers, Nightingales and Cirl Buntings make the walk more enjoyable with their flight and song, especially in springtime.
