ROUTE DESCRIPTION

The route goes between the villages of Congosta and Ayoo de Vidriales, at the north of the territory of Macovall 2000, in the historic and natural region of "Los Valles de Benavente".

The path connects the reservoirs of Congosta and Ayoo where we can see all types of aquatic birds such as the Great Crested Grebe or the Eurasian Coot, which have found their ideal habitat here.

Coming out of the village of Congosta on track heading northeast we reach the bank of the reservoir and a leisure area. Down-stream from the dam we cross the stream that flows into the reservoir, and we follow a path that goes to the foot of Peña de Santiago: a forest of Oaks and a thicket of rockroses and heathers alternate with areas of crop fields. It is easy to see small forest birds such as Chiffchaffs and Chaffinches, and in more open environments birds such as the Red-legged Partridge and Stonechat and birds of prey such as the Red Kite and the Common Buzzard.

The route finishes in the leisure area of the Ayoo reservoir.
