ROUTE DESCRIPTION

The route allows us to enjoy a landscape which is almost flat or with gentle slopes, on which a chromatic mosaic of crop fields is drawn. The route goes through the ‘Valdería-Jamuz’ Special Protection Area for Birds (SPAB), which constitutes the habitat of singular steepe species among which stand out the reproductive colonies of Little Bustard (Tetrax tetrax) and Montagu’s Harrier (Circus pygargus).

The first part of the route progresses on easy concentration paths, amongst plots of unirrigated land, where we can see birds typical of the cereal plains such as the Little Bustard (Tetrax tetrax), Montagu’s Harrier (Circus pygargus), Stone Curlew (Burhinus oedicnemus), Great Spotted Cuckoo (Clamatus glandarius), Little Owl (Athene noctua), Hoopoe (Upupa epops), Crested Lark (Galerida cristata) or the Corn Bunting (Miliaria calandra). After crossing the road that connects the villages of Santa Elena and Jiménez de Jamuz, the route comes close to the bed of River Jamuz and the reservoir formed by the “La Tabla” dam. This point is relevant for the observation of aquatic avifauna. In the surroundings we find an observatory and different information panels.
