ROUTE DESCRIPTIONThis pleasant route starts in the village of Nestar and goes through Cordovilla de Aguilar, both parts of the municipality of Aguilar de Campoo, through a quiet rural environment at the foot of the mountains of Palencia. Shortly after the start it passes beside Puente Perdiz, a very well preserved Roman bridge that crosses River Rubagón. It continues north on the Cordel de las Merinas crossing an open area between cultivated fields and pasturelands. Here you can observe the presence of the Stonechat, White Stork, Skylark, European Serin, Corn Bunting and the Hoopoe, a summer visitor, amongst other bird species. We leave the Cordel when it crosses the railway line, the old Ferrocarril Hullero line. Here we take a pleasant path, parallel to the railway, amongst Oaks and Ferns around the bottom of La Mata hill. After refreshing oneself at the fountain in Cordovilla de Aguilar, the route passes through farmlands and uncultivated land, on its way back to Nestar.
