ROUTE DESCRIPTION

Tierra de Campos is not just an “endless landscape” of farming fields in the clay soils of Castilla, there are also areas where they are mixed with riverbank vegetation and Mediterranean forests, creating a landscape mosaic that provides a great biodiversity.

From the village square we climb up to a ridge to reach the valley of River Cueza, a cultivation area where the green corridor created by the river with its vegetation, mainly formed by Black Poplars and Willows, is prominent. Here we can observe and hear the song of different birds such as the colourful Golden Oriole. The route gradually goes into an area with Mediterranean forests of Holm Oaks and Portuguese Oaks mixed with a dense understory. In this part we can see small birds such as Great Tits, Blue Tits, Nightingales, Chiffchaffs, among others.

Leaving the wooded area behind the route starts its return towards Población de Arroyo. Before starting to descend to the village, it is worth stopping to view the cereal plain, which provides a rich range of colours to the fertile lowland of River Valdeginate.
