ROUTE DESCRIPTION

The locality of La Aguilera, in Burgos, located only 10 kilometres from Aranda de Duero, is perhaps better known for the Convent of San Pedro Regalado and for its good wine, however, there is also the possibility of discovering the surroundings of the village by bicycle as well as on foot.

The route starts in an area surrounded by underground wine bodegas, in an area that produces wines with the Ribera del Duero P.D.O. (Protected Designation of Origin), from here it heads south into a beautiful and mixed landscape which combines cultivations of cereal and vineyards with groves of Holm Oaks and Pine trees.

Crossing the vineyards of the area known as El Galón, we can observe typical birds of this environment of farmlands and open spaces such as Crested Larks, Greater Short-toed Larks, European Bee-eaters and Stonechats. The forested areas of Pine trees and Holm Oaks shelter species of small birds such as Great Tits, Short-toed Treecreepers and Goldcrests, and some bigger species such as Booted Eagles, Sparrowhawks, Long-eared Owls or White Storks which nest on the top of Pine trees.
