ROUTE DESCRIPTION

After watering the lands of Aranda de Duero, the wide-flowing River Duero goes through the village of Villalba de Duero. This is the starting point of an ornithological route of great interest, mainly due to the wetlands formed after the abandonment of the gravel deposits which have reverted to a natural condition.

The itinerary starts in Villalba de Duero and follows a large part of the marked path PRC-BU 83. The route goes south, heading for the banks of the River Duero. After crossing some farmland, the Oak groves accompanied by some Savin Junipers and Black Poplars start appearing. Further ahead begin the wetlands, surrounded by bullrushes providing a habitat for a wealth of birdlife. Common Moorhens, Ducks, Eurasian Coots, Purple Herons or Little Bitterns are some of the birds that inhabit this aquatic environment.

This pleasant walk finishes by returning to Villalba de Duero on the track known as the vereda de Carroa.
