ROUTE DESCRIPTION

This route begins in the municipality of Hérmedes de Cerrato, situated in the south of the rural district of El Cerrato in Palencia. It takes us through an area with a variety of eco-systems, such as riverside woodlands, cereal cultivations on the plains, and a marvellous wood of Portuguese Oaks.

The route starts at the Recreation area in Hérmedes de Cerrato, situated in the poplars beside the stream of San Juan. Here in springtime one can hear the song of typical riverside species like the Nightingale and the Golden Oriole. The route climbs onto open moorland and then descends slightly to the cereal growing plains before reaching La Dehesa with its Oak covered mountainside. Here we begin to see birds like the Wood Lark, Tawny Pipit and the Dartford Warbler. One can also observe birds of prey such as the Short-toed Eagle and Booted Eagle, and other birds like the European Turtle Dove, Stock Dove and Red-legged Partridge.
