ROUTE DESCRIPTION

The dehesa Charra or Campo Charro is one of the most characteristic landscapes in the province of Salamanca, characterised by its Holm Oaks and wild Bulls. This circular route is on a good surface and is possible both on foot and by bicycle. It starts in Las Veguillas, which is situated at over 1000 metres above sea-level.

From the square in Las Veguillas, it climbs the slope towards the south until it reaches ‘el albercón’, an interesting pool which, when full, provides a habitat for different species of ducks and wading birds. Amongst other species the Common Crane and the White Stork are also present.

Following the walls of the estates where they rear Bulls for fighting and Iberian Pigs, it is not unusual to observe the airy flight of birds of prey, such as Kites, Booted Eagles, Short-toed Eagles, or Black-winged Kites.
