ROUTE DESCRIPTION

The surroundings of the picturesque village of Ledesma, which stands on a granite mound on the banks of the River Tormes, retain historic and natural features of the highest order. It is situated in the west of Salamanca, near the Site of Community Interest of Riberas de la Subcuenca del Río Tormes.

The route begins by crossing the Roman bridge in Ledesma, and passes the Chapel of the Carmen. Along this first stretch one can see birds such as Herons and Ducks, and mammals like the secretive Otter. It continues on to the Rivera de Cañedo, a small gorge where we find the Puente Mocho, a Roman bridge which was restored in Medieval times, and has been declared a Site of Cultural Interest, nearby there are also remains of a Roman road. This part of the route follows tracks which cross gentle dehesas and pasture lands, where it is possible to observe White Storks and the Black-winged Kite. Shortly after reaching Puente Mocho we pass a pool known as the Fuente Mocha, which acts as a watering place for local cattle.
