ROUTE DESCRIPTION

The route begins in the municipality of Fariza and passes through the part of the Natural Park of Los Arribes del Duero that is situated in the province of Zamora, declared a Site of Community Interest and a Special Protection Area for Birds.

The first part follows the bank of the Arroyo del Pisón, in woods of Ash, Holm Oak, and Common Juniper, where the water accumulates due to the barriers caused by the Diversion Dams of the old mills, now in ruins. One can observe species of birds such as Hoopoes, Chats, Warblers and Shrikes. The path crosses the stream by the Puente del Puerto and heads towards the Ermita del Castillo and the Mirador de Las Barrancas, passing through countryside notable for the spectacular panorama of the gorge of the River Duero, and of particular interest for the birds that nest here; the Black Stork, Egyptian Vulture, Griffon Vulture, Golden Eagle, and Peregrine Falcon, amongst others. From the viewpoint the return to Fariza is along an easy path amongst Holm Oaks and Junipers.
