ROUTE DESCRIPTION

This linear route runs beside the River Rudrón between the hamlets of Hoyos del Tozo and Moradillo del Castillo, within the municipal areas of Basconcillos del Tozo and Sargentes de la Lora, in the heart of the Natural Park of Las Hoces del Alto Ebro & Rudrón. It has also been declared a Site of Community Interest and a Special Protection Area for Birds.

The route leaves Hoyos del Tozo on a track that runs parallel to the River Rudrón on its left bank, it narrows to become a path after passing an abandoned mill. At no time does it leave the river bank, passing under dense riverside vegetation, which provides shade so the route is pleasant even in the heat of summer. It winds along the narrow bends carved out by the force of the river, which over the years has created a deep limestone gorge. The gorge is home to numerous birds of prey: the Griffon Vulture, Golden Eagle, Egyptian Vulture, Peregrine Falcon, Eagle Owl, and the rare Bonelli’s Eagle. The route can also be done starting from Moradillo del Castillo.
