Justification of our participation in the TRINO project

The region of Tierra de Campos in Palencia is an ideal place for birdwatching, given that throughout its agricultural plains, river banks and wetland areas we can find steppe birds and large concentrations of aquatic birds in the La Nava, Boada and Pedraza Lakes.

ARADUEY-CAMPOS has three places in the Natura 2000 ecology network, classified as Special Protection Areas for Birds (ZEPAs, from the Spanish acronym), chosen in this region for their important populations of steppe birds, such as floricans, korhaans, Montagu’s Harriers, Lesser Kestrels, and larks. The three Special Protection Areas are: La Nava – Campos Norte, La Nava – Campos Sur, and St. James’ Way (“Camino de Santiago” in Spanish).

ARADUEY has participated in the TRINO Project since its initial phase in which fourteen local action groups were able to put together an innovative sustainable development project for tourism through signs on birdwatching paths and training for nature and birdwatching guides.
